After graduation Jordan entered the United States Navy as an Aviation Cadet and received his commission as an Ensign in December 1936 at Pensacola Naval Air Station. After earning his wings Jordan was assigned to duty with the Pacific Fleet onboard the Battleship USS Colorado. From the Colorado he flew the Vought OS2U
