There is one split toward to bottom of the slide top lid and another on the bottom of the box but it remains very sturdy and sound

and still threaded with some old twine

and this great big ear with raised outline

Lovely Bunch of c. 1870s Slate Pencils with Gold Paper Wraps white enamel original to the postcardA beautiful set of antique slate pencils, just waiting for one of those antique slates I am so fond of (none in the shop just now, but I'll find one soon!) I do like just looking at these a bundle of possibilities; words and numbers yet to be written. I come across these now and then but I've never seen ones wrapped in gold, which makes them extra lovely and special feeling. c. 1870s. Approx 6 7 16" long. Sold as a set. In excellent condition.
