Instituted 1815 by Prince Regent George (later King George III). Of Austrian manufacture, consisting of a solid Gold Maltese Cross with each arm topped by finials and with a stylized lion passant in each quadrant of the Cross, the centre of the obverse bears a white enameled Hanoverian horse on a vibrant red enameled background within a ring of blue enamels featuring the order motto of NEC ASPERA TERRENT (Not Afraid of
