Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a faithful depiction of the Austro Hungarian U Boat War Badge in the form of a fouled anchor flanked by initials UB (UNTERSEEBOOT), affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a dark navy blue wool backer indicating use on the Kriegsmarine uniform of identical colour,
