18th Century Gothic Armchair Sold English circa 1840A George III oak Gothic armchair. The engraved brass plaques to the back rest read. "This chair was made in the year 1818 as a part of the original oak taken out of the abbey at Blanchland" "Founded by Walter de Bulbeck in honour of blessed virgin in the year 1175". Dated 1818 to the underside with an indistinct faded paper label. Height 49in (124. 5cm). Width 28in (71cm) Depth 23in (58. 5cm) Seat height 17in (43cm).
